Violets

I picked some small wild violets on a walk to the open ocean yesterday. I plucked some of these lovely little gems which were growing in profusion along the side of the road. They have no fragrance and that got me wondering what variety has the exquisite fragrance that I remember from when I was a kid.
Viola odorata, as the name implies, is the one with the soft, fleeting fragrance that we associate with the violet and often (unsuccessfully) try to capture in commercial scents.Posted by Picasa
